Every spring, the Netherlands turns into a sea of colour for just a few weeks. I’ve been photographing couples, families and solo travellers between the tulips since 2018, and the question I get most is: Keukenhof or the tulip fields?

Honestly? I love all three. The best choice depends on your photo goals and the experience you’re dreaming of.

Perfectly designed gardens, a river, a windmill and millions of flowers. Lots of variety in one place.
Early April – 9 May 2027
Tulip Fields & Gardens
Bollenstreek, around Lisse: endless rows of colour, windmills behind you and props like a straw hat or picnic basket. Tulips last all season.
18 April – early May 2027
Tulip Fields in the North
Quiet fields, big open skies, almost no tourists. Working farms, so we depend on the weather and the month: farmers cut the flowers once they’re ready.

Tulip Season FAQs
Keukenhof is open from 18 March to 9 May 2027. The Bollenstreek tulip fields usually bloom from early April to early May, and the fields in the North a little later, from around 18 April. Peak week depends on the weather, so I check the fields a few days before every shoot.
Both are beautiful for a proposal, and I highly recommend either one: Keukenhof Gardens or the tulip fields & gardens. Keukenhof gets busier during the day, so I suggest early in the morning or just before closing to avoid the crowds. Even then, the spots I know are quieter and just as beautiful.
Keukenhof tickets are €21–25 per person. Most tulip farms in the Bollenstreek charge around €12.50. In the North it depends on the farm. Entry is not included in the photoshoot packages.
We stay flexible. A few days before your shoot I’ll suggest the location that looks best that week, so you always get flowers in your photos.
