WHAT TO DO + PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
TOP INSTAGRAMMABLE LOCATIONS IN AMSTERDAM
1. DAMRAK HOUSES
From The Best 6 Instagrammable Places in Amsterdam, this is my favourite spot to take phots! Damrak Buildings are just 3 minutes walking to the Amsterdam Central Station. It offers a beautiful view of these colourful, crooked houses across the canal. It’s such a cute spot for photos. I definitely recommend you to stop by on your way to visit Damsquare, the main square of the city.
Sandra’s Photography Tip: I always love to see the birds flying around, it gives more movement to the photos! If you can catch them It would make your photos cooler!
2. THE BIG BIKES PARKING
This spot is not really known by tourists! It’s next to Amsterdam Central Station and you would have never thought about to take photos here because is one of the biggest bikes parkings in Amsterdam, so yes, it’s literally full of hundreds of bikes. If you like to see the city a little bit from the heights and take creative photos you cannot miss it! It has a variety of views, the beautiful Amsterdam Houses, the station and my favourite view, The Basilica of Saint Nicholas!
Sandra’s Photography Tip: wear hats, foulards or dresses. It will help you to create inspirational photos about your trip in Amsterdam!
3. JOORDAN DISTRICT
You cannot miss Jordan District in your next trip to Amsterdam! It’s just 5 minutes walking to Central Station. This area normally is less busy of tourists. It has beautiful canals and streets lined with old houses, indie boutiques, and trendy neighbourhoods. The house boats in this area are really cute too! It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in Amsterdam so naturally, there is something beautiful around every corner. The Jordaan District is also where you’ll find the Anne Frank House.
Sandra’s Photography Tip: to always appear standing in front of the camera can seem boring for your travel photos. In Amsterdam you have plenty of canals, bridges or docks where you can sit down and appear in the photo enjoying the city views. In my photography I always like to tell a story through my lenses!
4. THE 9 STRAATJES
The Nine Streets is a picturesque canal-district area with beautiful homes, boutiques, and cafes. The best streets to walk around and take photos are Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, and Herengracht. As a curiosity these are the most expensive neighbours to live in the city!
Sandra’s Photography Tip: take different photos, I like to get inspired following Murad Osmamn style, holding hands and exploring Amsterdam streets.
5. THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT
The best time to visit the Red Light District it’s in the evening. It’s beautiful to see the red & purple lights reflected in the canals, but nobody talks about to visit the Red Light District Area during the daylight, believe me, you cannot miss it, here you will find plenty of hidden streets and cute buildings. It’s one of the most safest streets in Amsterdam at any time so go to take some cool photos!
Sandra’s Photography Tip: to have a coffee next to the canals is a beautiful experience and also really cool for an instagram photo!
6. ROKIN AREA
Rokin Area is between Damsquare and The Bloemenmarkt, the floating Flower Market. This is a really cute Instagrammable place for photos, if your passion is to travel there you will have a nice background full of countries flags, boats and dutch houses. In this street you will also find The equestrian statue of Queen Wilhelmina.
Sandra’s Photography Tip: bring props! A bouquet of tulips and a map will help you to create inspirational photos about your trip in Amsterdam!
